Caleb's "BIRTH"day

When Jason and I went for my 39 week checkup everything was going just as it always did. Weight, urine sample, mommy's BP looks good, Caleb's heart rate is perfect and they would always tell me the same thing "LOOKS GREAT WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK". Today, at the end of my appointment I was expecting to hear "LOOKS GREAT WE WILL SEE YOU NEXT WEEK", but instead she said are you ready to have a baby next week? I was so shocked to hear her say this because she had previously told me that I could go a week past my due date. Needless to say, I said "yes" and we decided to come up with a plan for induction. Our plan was to arrive at 8:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 12th to begin induction and Caleb would be born sometime on Thursday, September 13th. After leaving the doctor that day I felt such at ease to know that we had a plan and to know that within a week or sweet boy would be here. I continued to work each day all the way up until the day we went to the hospital to be induced.

On Wednesday night we stopped at Arby's for my "last meal" and then went to the hospital to get checked in. We were set up in a room and I was connected to the most annoying monitors ever that monitored my heartbeat and Mr. Caleb's heartbeat as well. ( On a side note...these things make for the most uncomfortable sleep ever because every time I would move half an inch they would get moved from the correct spot and wouldn't pick up the heartbeat which in turn would set off the most annoying beeping sound. This happened COUNTLESS times throughout the night)! I was told to try to get some rest, but who can sleep knowing in a few hours you are going to have a CHILD and not to mention my annoying friend the beeping monitors? They came in around midnight and set up IVs and  and by 12:30am I was receiving Pitocin. I was able to sleep "close my eyes and think about a million things"  through the night .
At around 6:30, the doctor came to examine me and check my progress. He broke my water and inserted the intrauterine pressure catheter to monitor my contractions. At this point, I was 2 cm, and contractions were strong and very consistent. The contractions became MUCH, MUCH more intense after he broke my water. After they broke my water and my contractions became more intense so did the pain. I made it until about 9:00 before getting my epidural. Getting an epidural is something that has always scared me a little knowing that it is a big needle that has to go in a little area. To my surprise it wasn't bad at all.  It was uncomfortable, but it wasn't like I wanted to scream or cry.
They did lots of blood pressure checks and quick little exams to make sure I wasn't going to have a bad reaction to the epidural and this mommy was good to go.  After a few minutes, I was good to go and all parts that needed to be numb were numb. Our families came back in the room and I put on my make up and got my hair fixed.  This Momma wanted to be looking good  to meet her little man and for pictures!  They checked me throughout the day and contractions got worse, but they weren't really bothering me so the epidural was definitely a must for me...I can't possibly imagine having to feel all of that pain.

So the day went on with several "checks" and not much was happening. I stayed 2 cm pretty much all morning. My sweet nurse sat down and had "the talk" with me. She told me that if I had not progressed any when my doctor came by around lunch time that she was probably going to suggest a c-section. We talked about the pros and cons of each and I was ready to hear from my doctor. At around 1:30 p.m. my doctor came by. Before checking she had "the talk" with me that my nurse had prepped me for. After our "talk" she checked me and I was at 4cm. After having some progression she decided to let me continue to labor and hope that I would continue to dilate and that he would begin to drop because he was still up VERY high. I could tell that she was very concerned that he was still up so high! She told me she would be back to check me at 5:00.

At 5:00 she came back to check and nothing had really changed. She said I had dilated a little more, but that our child was directionally challenged because instead of coming down into the birth canal she thought he was actually higher. After hearing this news and another "talk" C-section it was. I was then put in line for a c-section and now would just be hanging out until time for the c-section. This at first was no big deal because I was so tired and was just ready to be holding my baby. On the other hand, two hours later when I was STILL WAITING in line it became a big deal. By this point I was having serious contractions but all of my medicine was stopped to prepare for c-section, my BP had gotten really high, I had a fever of 100.1, I was feeling EVERY CONTRACTION in my back and I was one tired and ILL mommy.

Finally, at around 7:00 I was taken back to have the C-section. They get everything prepped and set up and then they let my hubby come in. After Jason got in the room it was show time. They begin to make "the cut" and it wasn't long before I heard them say " I see a big ol head"... "Oh my goodness...I see a big ol boy". In my mind, I am thinking big...7lbs or so. I then hear another nurse say, "Oh my goodness girl you birthed a toddler". I am still thinking yay he is healthy and has some meet on his bones.
At 7:38 p.m.  Caleb Alan Ross was born at 9lbs 4 oz and 20 3/4 inches long.
He came out screaming which was the most beautiful noise I have ever heard. Hearing that screaming and crying let me know that I was about to meet the little boy I have loved, carried and dreamed about for 9 months.

Getting to see our sweet boy before he got all cleaned up!

Getting all of his stats!
Mommy's first time to hold her SON! I will never forget this moment and kissing those little chubby cheeks!
Daddy's first time to hold his little buddy! I am so in LOVE with both of these boys!
Our First Family Photo

Going Back to our room to meet all of Caleb's family and friends!
Everyone got a quick glimpse of our sweet Caleb and then it was time to get him all cleaned up and to eat. All of his visitors were asked to leave for about an hour and then they could come back and hold him. Due to the fact it was so late only the grandparents stuck around, but everyone else returned the next day for their turn to get their hands on him :)
Big Daddy and Momma T getting their first glimpse of their little man
His aunts who are going to SPOIL him :)
Over the next two days we had so many precious friends and family who came to visit us in the hospital. It made this mommy so happy to know that we have so many people who love us and wanted to share in this special time with us.These few days in the hospital were some VERY ROUGH days for this mommy. My husband helped me and did things for me he probably never dreamed he would have to do. He was amazing and I could never thank him enough. My mom was also a wonderful helper. I could not have done it without these two. I have never given much thought to a c-section, but it is no joke. It is an abdominal surgery and it is no joke. Getting out of the bed for the first time was AWFUL. I just wanted to cry like a little baby.Removing the bandage and taking a shower was another  adventure and I would have never imagined having to have my husband, my mother and my nurse ( a stranger) all in the shower with me, but that happened!
Finally on Sunday at around 11:30 we were discharged and headed home as a family of 3!

The next few days were a mix of millions of feelings and emotions. I laughed, I cried, I screamed, I hurt and the list goes on and on! All in all this was a wonderful experience. I had wonderful doctors and nurses, wonderful family, wonderful friends and we are blessed with a beautiful healthy baby boy! Praise Jesus!

39 Weeks and a PLAN to Meet Little Man

This has been an exciting and eventful week! Yesterday morning, from about 4:30 to 6:00 a.m. I was having constant painful contractions as I was laying in the bed. These contractions felt much different than the Braxton Hicks I have been having for a couple of weeks. At 6:00, I decided I would get up and get ready and call the doctor. Well, after I got up and started getting ready the contractions were not as frequent or intense. Therefore, I decided that I would just go on to work and see what happened. After getting to work I had another long stretch of contractions that were lasting about 1 minute and were very close together for about an hour. After talking to my girls at work they "forced" me to call the doctor just to see what they said. Of course, they wanted me to come in and get checked. Once I got to the doctor I was still having contractions but once again they weren't as frequent. The doctor checked and I was 1cm and my cervix was beginning to thin. He described that I was probably in the early stage of labor and that I should just continue to monitor the contractions. My regular appointment was scheduled for today, so I assumed he would just want me to cancel and come back next week. WRONG...he wanted me to come back again today.
Today, I was still 1cm, cervix  thinning and still having contractions. The doctor then asked if I was ready to come up with a plan? PLAN...oh my gosh this is CRAZY!!! She said since I was starting to dilate and thin on my own she wanted to give him a few more days to see if labor would take place on its own and if not then should would see me WEDNESDAY night at 8:00 to begin the induction process. This took me by surprise because earlier in my pregnancy she said that she would let me go one week past due date if there were no medical issues. Needless, to say I am thrilled to have a plan and to know that in a week or less he will be in my arms!
Heartbeat: 136- He was pretty relaxed today
Blood Pressure- 112/78- This is a little high for me, but it was still nothing for them to be concerned over
Weight-??? I was too scared to look down at the scales and see :)

Other EXCITING news...
Bags are COMPLETELY packed and in the car. Speaking of car my sweet hubby wanted us to have a bigger car before Caleb arrived and he made it all happen. We now have a Honda Pilot ( 3 rows) with plenty of room for our little man. I have LOVED driving it so far and I know that we will really enjoy it as we begin to travel with our little man.

The New Ride :)

Bags are Packed!
Carseat installed and ready!

Also, I have been wanting a necklace with Caleb's name on it to have to wear at the hospital. Once again, the hubby made it happen. I have a cute necklace with my sweet boy's name on it and it will have an additional pendant sent with the birth date once we know the exact day :). Jason, has been a wonderful husband throughout the entire pregnancy and I can not wait to watch him be a wonderful daddy to our son. I am truly blessed to have such a wonderful husband!

For now we are just waiting to see if anything happens between now and Wednesday, and if not St.Vincents will be seeing me at 8:00 Wednesday night :) I pray that something happens before then, but if not this time next week I will be holding our little Caleb!

38 Weeks...Just Hanging Out

Today, I went in for my 38 weeks appointment. I was 100% percent positive SOMETHING was going on down there after all of the pains and CONTRACTIONS I have been having.  Not to mention these days the comments from friends and strangers consist of "How far along are you?....He is really low."..."Look at that belly".  Well, it came time for "the check" and I was totally surprised to hear her say "Nothing...still nice and tight". She did end on a positive note by saying that he was head down and in great position. I'm totally ok with him baking for a few more weeks, but I was just shocked to hear that there was no progress!

At the doctor today:
Heartbeat: 166 - she said we have an active little boy :)
Blood Pressure: 112/70 - Very good for mommy
Weight: Ummm...let's not talk about that. Let's just say I told Jason to watch out because I am on his heals in the weight contest :)
What We've Been Up to Lately...
The past two days we have been blessed with more goodies for our little man. Yesterday, Jason's sweet co-workers gave us a wonderful shower with lots of goodies. They knew exactly what we needed...LOTS OF DIAPERS! Today, my wonderful co-workers had refreshments in the lounge for everyone to enjoy and we were given a VERY NICE gift card  to help purchase the things that we will need once Caleb arrives along with a few other goodies. We are so blessed with so many wonderful friends and family members. We have received so many wonderful gifts and can not wait for Caleb to arrive so that we can put them all to good use.

For now we are just hanging out and waiting for Mr.Caleb to decide he is ready to meet everyone. I guess we can have a relaxing Labor Day weekend grilling and watching football.

36 Weeks and Nursery Reveal !

WOW...it was so strange to type 36 weeks because I know that means that in about 4 weeks...LESS than a month we will have our little man in our arms :).  Since my last update I have been focusing most of my attention on the beginning of the school year and getting my classroom ready. I have spent hours and hours preparing for this new school year, but my goal is to have a good routine going and everything organized, so that when our precious Caleb gets here I will be able to focus my attention on him and everything will be running smooth for my babies at school :). Monday, was the first day for students to return to school and so far my class has been wonderful. I am anticipating a GREAT year, but I must say I have been one tired momma these past two days when the bell FINALLY rings.

 36 Weeks :)

My wonderful co-workers before Meet the Teacher

Saturday, I went for my first "check". It was the normal routine: lab work, weigh in, and blood pressure check - which was perfect! During my visit, she did the Strep B Test, then came "the check".  I was a little shocked when she looked at me and said, "nice and tight"! I was so sure that SOMETHING was going on down there because I have been having lots of pains and  he is constantly jumping up and down on my cervix causing lots of pressure! I'm totally ok with him baking for a few more weeks, because I know that just means he is developing into a healthy little boy.
As far as preparing for our little man goes...my list is getting much shorter! Only a FEW things left...
  •  Finish packing our bags for the hospital and have them in the car before our 37 weeks appointment which is Saturday morning.
  • Getting a pedicure and my eyebrows waxed...mommy has to be looking good when the BIG day arrives.
  • Deep clean on the house to have it nice and clean before bringing our little man home
The nursery is complete! I think it turned out very cute and I can not wait to bring Caleb home and begin our life as a family of 3. Now...you get to go on a tour of the nursery....I know you can hardly contain your excitement :)

Changing area with an old wooden mirror found at a yard sale along with floating shelves with rustic picture frames that for now have maternity pictures in them, but will have pictures of a cute little boy soon!

Bed and dinosaur bedding  with his name hanging on a curtain rod behind the bed...Thank you Pinterest!
Chest with his toy and book baskets, cute picture made by my sweet friend Mandy, and cute little lamp..once again THANKS to Pinterest!

Old Window that will have pictures of sweet Caleb in it  along with his little hospital outfits hanging from the knobs VERY SOON :)

Tomorrow will be 37 weeks...I am going to try and be better about keeping everyone informed and updated with any news over the next few weeks as it gets closer to the BIG DAY! Stay Tuned...hopefully we will be meeting Caleb very soon!

ROUND about 32 weeks to 34 weeks!

Today I am actually 34 weeks pregnant, but have been a little behind on blogging and adding " Baby Bump" pictures. Here is a picture at 32 weeks! That belly is getting rather ROUND!
32 Weeks
34 Weeks
Over the past two weeks we had another shower given by the girls in our Sunday school class. It was a wonderful time spent with some very sweet friends...and of course LOTS of goodies for Mr.Caleb! (separate baby shower post with lots of pictures coming soon). Since our two showers I've been a busy bee getting all of his things in order. Clothes, blankets, socks, bibs, etc. all washed  and hung up or put away.I have taken a few things back that we got multiples of and have bought a few small things that we still needed. I think we have all of the necessities ready!
The nursery is almost ready...just one or two more things to hang on the wall and then it will be complete ( Nursery Blog...Coming Soon). For now here is a sneak peak of a couple of things in his nursery!

Behind his bed!

Thank you Pinterest :)

At 34 weeks an average baby weighs about 4.5 to 5 pounds. I guess that should make me feel better that I have been packing on the pounds here lately. He is a growing BOY...RIGHT?? His movements are starting to change. They are not so much kicks and punches anymore, but more like rolls and pokes. I also think he has dropped over the past couple of weeks because his movements are much lower and my belly looks a little lower! Like I said earlier...I have been packing on the pounds here lately which equals no clothes that fit. I guess I will be wearing moo moo's to work for those first couple of weeks in school. Oh well...it is definitely worth it because in 6 WEEKS or less I will be holding my sweet boy. Bring on the big girl clothes and the Ice Cream...this momma is going to enjoy her last few weeks of pregnancy!
